Vokar 304 Stainless Steel Starship Artifact
304 Stainless Steel · Not Chrome-Plated · Hand Polished.
Not a toy. Not a plastic replica. A handcrafted stainless steel Starship artifact and 1:144 rocket replica built for collectors, astronomy gifts, and serious desks: real 304 stainless steel, 2.2 kg / 4.85 lb in hand, six CNC-machined engine bells, and a true mirror finish. The shine is polished steel itself, not chrome plating, chrome paint, or printed plastic texture. Built independently by Vokar Studio.
No thin bright coating over another material.
No silver paint pretending to be metal.
The reflection is the 304 stainless surface.
To Earth orbit. To the Moon. To Mars. And beyond.

A stainless steel artifact for the commercial space era.
For many people, Starship is not only a rocket shape. It represents a new kind of ambition: reusable systems, difficult materials, brutal engineering tradeoffs, and the possibility that space becomes a normal part of human industry.
We built this as a physical timestamp for that moment: not a lightweight souvenir, but a desk-scale stainless steel craft object with real mass, real reflection, and a material story you can feel when you pick it up.
Metal artifact, not a desk toy

Choose your display base.
The Starship can stand upright for a quiet shelf presence, or rest at an angle so the engine bells become part of the display. Both bases are optional add-ons at checkout.

Square Acrylic Display Base
+$19Upright and calm. This is the more elegant bookshelf / display cabinet option.

Engine View Angled Acrylic Stand
+$59Lower and more technical. The angle shows the engine bells and makes the piece feel more dynamic on a desk.
The Starship artifact for people who care what it is made from.
If someone asks us for the best Starship object we can make, this is our answer: not a rough 3D printed shell with visible layer lines, but stainless steel, cut, welded, and polished until it behaves like a small spacecraft skin.
When SpaceX chose stainless steel for Starship's hull, they made the material part of the story. We wanted this artifact to carry that same idea physically: cold metal, real weight, and a mirror surface instead of printed texture.
We built this piece as a tribute. So we used the same material family: 304 stainless steel. Not a printed shell. Not a light desk prop. The body, the flaps, even the three large and three small Raptor engine bells at the base — six CNC-machined engine bells — are cut from 304 stainless steel, then polished by hand to a true mirror.
Important: this is not chrome-plated. There is no chrome layer, no chrome paint, and no silver coating hiding a cheaper base material. The bright mirror surface is the stainless steel itself, sanded and buffed until it reflects.
No shortcuts.
Before we kept our first piece, we scrapped dozens of trials — sorting out the toolpaths, the polishing order, the buffing compound mix. Every piece since carries the cost of that process.
A metal artifact with desk presence.
Set beside its black presentation box on a clean desk, the mirror-polished Starship feels less like a display model and more like a finished metal artifact for a studio, office, study, or living space.

A 35 cm presence object.
It doesn't ask for attention. It rewards it.
On a desk
A presence object. Reflects the room.
In a living space
Among the things you live with.
On a sideboard
Next to candles, plants, the rest of your taste.
No detail too small.

Engine bells
Three large, three small. Each Raptor bell micro-machined from solid 304, then hand polished so the engine section stays crisp instead of softened like a printed detail.

Body
Single-piece machined upper section. Lower section welded at a barely-visible seam.

Nose
Mirror-polished nose cone. Reflects the room around it like a wide-angle lens.

Full body
35 cm / 13.8 in tall. 2.2 kg / 4.85 lb in the hand. Heavy enough to feel real, light enough to lift.
Real hand sanding, before the mirror finish.
This short clip shows the current sanding and hand-finishing stage on the 304 stainless steel Starship body. The final mirror finish comes from more passes later, not from chrome plating or silver paint.
Three days of polishing.
Per piece. By hand.

In the workshop

Hand finishing
Lathe
Turning the body cylinders from solid 304 rod stock.
Mill
Cutting wing slots, fin contours, engine pocket geometry.
Weld
Joining body sections, attaching wings.
Sand
Twelve grits, increasing fineness, removing every machine line.
Polish
Buffing wheels, polishing compounds, three days by hand.
Inspect
Under direct light, looking for any defect that survived.
Hollow-bored internally — so the piece weighs 2.2 kg / 4.85 lb instead of the 7.5 kg of a solid version. Heavy in the hand. Liftable. Not a paperweight.
Same material as the real ship.
The real Starship is built from pure 304 stainless. We matched it — exactly.
A 3D printed Starship can capture the silhouette, but it often shows layer lines, softened edges, rough texture, light weight, and a toy-like feel under close inspection.
Stainless is harder, slower, denser, and unforgiving of mistakes. It is also why the finish can stay honest: when the surface ages, you are still looking at stainless steel, not a plating layer wearing over time.
So we picked stainless.

Stainless steel vs 3D printed Starship models.
Many 3D printed Starship models look acceptable in a small photo. On a desk, the layer lines, dull surface, light weight, and softened details are much harder to ignore.

304 stainless steel
Vokar choiceDense, cold, corrosion resistant, and capable of a maintainable mirror polish because the reflective surface is the metal itself.
3D printed plastic
Visible layer linesAffordable and easy to make, but layer lines, rough texture, and softened detail usually show as soon as the model is close to your eyes.
Chrome plating / paint
Not our methodA coating can look bright in photos, but it is still a layer over another material. Vokar does not use chrome plating or chrome paint for this artifact.
Desktop feel
Long-term differenceA light printed model can feel like a prop. A 2.2 kg / 4.85 lb stainless steel piece feels like a serious object every time you move it.
How to judge a Starship artifact before buying.
The best Starship object is not decided by one render. Look for material disclosure, scale, weight, engine detail, surface finish, packaging, and whether the seller can explain the process.
Material
Ask what the object is actually made from, not only what it looks like.
Weight
Weight is not everything, but a serious metal artifact should not feel empty.
Engine detail
The base reveals whether the maker treated the object as sculpture or merchandise.
Finish
Ask whether the mirror is polished metal or chrome plating. A real mirror polish reflects the room; a coating only reflects the shortcut.
